Breastfeeding: Low milk supply. Angela Gagnon agagnon@sympatico.ca I came across your site, and I am sure I can help some mamas out. I have breastfed for years, my oldest until she self-weaned at 2 and a half; my youngest (one year old) currently. I've overcome many obstacles in breastfeeding especially thrush, low supply, myths, pumping issues, etc. I also have had one hospital birth and one homebirth. Hope I can help. April, Proud Mama to Julianna & Angelina pwrfamily@quickclic.net Breech baby I would be happy to talk to any pregnant women trying to turn a breech baby to avoid a C-section. Naomi Caesarian section birth: Low amniotic fluid & CSection: Tracy Lanzon-Holman tlh@gto.net "I had a C section because of pre-eclampsia and low fluid in my sac.The day we brought the baby home, we had to bring him back to the hospital because he was having seizures caused by low glucose." Crystal Koski crystal-keeks@sympatico.ca Cleft lip & cleft palate My son was born with a cleft lip and palate which worldwide is the most common facial difference. When we found out during a routine ultrasound that our baby would be born with a cleft lip, we immediately found other parents to talk to. It made all the difference to us. It enabled us to have a positive birth experience and prepared us so we could deal with society expectations. My son is a happy, healthy, well-adjusted 5-year-old boy thanks to the support and guidance we received. I would be honored to be able to support others through your Matching Mothers Network. Donna Bantis Volunteer and Programs Coordinator AboutFace donnab@aboutfaceinternational.org 1.800.665.3223 ext. 23 Gestational Diabetes: "I developed gestestional diabetes and had to do blood testing 7 times a day and insulin injections 3 times a day. It was pretty scary. I had a midwife which was a fantastic experience but because of the gestestional diabetes I was transferred to a great OB. My midwife attended my birth with the OB. My girlfriend who is taking doula training was also at the birth. It was a small birthing party! I have a healthy 10-month-old baby girl." Kathy Smith kathyguelph73@hotmail.com Heart defect I would like to join the mothers network as I have a unique postnatal experience to share. My son was born on August 20th 2005 a week overdue by emergency C-section due to his large size 9lbs 11 oz. I had a very healthy and normal pregnancy and for the first 5 hours after birth a very healthy and normal baby. My husband however noticed that our son seemed to be struggling to breathe and insisted he be thoroughly checked. After many difficult hours and investigation doctors suspected that our son had a heart defect and transferred him to Sick Kids Hospital for further investigation. Within 24 hours of his birth our son was prepared for open heart surgery to repair blocked and mismatched valves connecting his heart and lungs. The defect is officially known as T.A.P.V.D , the surgery was successful and we faced many weeks of recovery and many complications to deal with. Our son is now 4 months old, completely medication free and healthy, it has been a very trying and difficult time for all of us, definitely the most difficult thing we have ever had to deal with. We are so relieved and happy to have overcome this experience successfully and would love to help other parents deal with similar situations, by giving them moral support and any information that might help ease their difficult experience. Marguerett and Nelson/Jan/06, marguerett.isabel@sympatico.ca Home birth: Successful homebirth after dealing with a long labour & posterior presenting baby delivered in table-top position with wonderful midwives. Catherine Hernande zkating77@hotmail.com Pregnancy: Developed kidney stones during pregnancy: Anne Hammerbeck Lee kevinalee@sprint.ca Serious morning sickness, dehydration, hospitalization, dicletin, lost 20lbs in first four months, gall stones, kidney stones...ending up with a normal labour & delivery of a healthy baby without any pain-relieving drugs. Chelsea Elias malorak@hotmail.com Premature baby: Pre-eclampsia & 10-week premie: Susan Martin slbedford@hotmail.com I gave birth to a baby girl in July 2003, She weighed only 2 pounds and came 3 months early (26 weeks gestation). I had a very healthy pregnancy until the fifth month when I had several unexplained bleeding episodes. Despite numerous ultrasounds and visits to a pregnancy specialist at Mt. Sinai, the cause was never determined. I was told I was one of the unexplained cases. Chloe was born at Mt. Sinai in good health but very premature. She stayed at the NICU for 2 months and then was transferred to Level 2 at St. Michael's Hospital where she stayed an additional 2 weeks. The whole experience was quite a nightmare and my husband and I fought for Chloe all the way in order to get adequate care. We had to cross many barriers and road blocks along the way but she finally made it home. She is now a healthy 7 month old (4 months corrected) with great attitude and spirit. She weighs almost 14 pounds now and is eager to make her mark in the world. Peggy Hlobil-Emmenegger peggy@psi-fleet.com or peggy_hlobil@hotmail.com VBAC (Vaginal birth after C-section): Successful vaginal birth with my second baby after a caesarian section delivery for my first baby. Tracy Lanzon-Holman tlh@gto.net Vaccinations & Vitamin D supplements My baby was born 5 weeks early and spent 10 days in hospital so there was a transfer of care from my midwives to doctors. I had a hard time with breastfeeding for the first few weeks but with great support from my midwives, lactation consultants, the breastfeeding clinics and my awesome husband, breastfeeding was successful and continues to be very satisfying experience. I have always been a very natural-leaning person seeking information and guidance from naturopathic and homeopathic practitioners. I am a certified reflexogist. The more I research and talk to other professionals the more I want to delay vaccinating my baby. I am continuing to do research on specific vaccines and alternatives. It was recommended that my breastfed baby be given Vitamin D supplements but I feel that the small amount of Vitamin D in my breastmilk and a commitment to taking my baby outside every day for fresh air and sunlight is all the vitamin D required.
